4th Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive

Starlite Propane is pleased to announce that we will be participating in the  4th Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive. As most of our loyal customers, employees,  family members, and friends know, Starlite Propane loves their pets! We’re taking the lead from our local legislators  and starting our own collection of pet food for the Long Island Cares- Harry Chapin Food Bank.

We will be collecting donations through April 30th 2015. If you are scheduled for a delivery before the cut off date and would like our drivers to collect your donations, please contact our office at 631-586-2264 and ask for Elaina.  You can always drop donations at our corporate office at 44 West Jefryn Blvd., Suite Q in Deer Park.

The 4th Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive brings together all levels of state and local elected officials in an attempt to gather much needed pet food donations for struggling Nassau and Suffolk County families.

Did you know Long Island Cares has a PET PANTRY?  Long Island Cares started Baxter’s Pet Pantry in 2009 and has since distributed nearly one million pounds of pet food, all of which has been donated through pet food drives, like this one, and corporate donations.

“Baxter’s Pet Pantry operated by Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, which was developed in partnership with the Animal Relief Fund Inc. (ARF), makes free pet food supplied by ARF and many pet food corporations available to pet-owning families in need in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York.”

Most Needed Pet Foods

  • 5 or 10 pounds bags of dog and cat food (larger bags always accepted)
  • Canned dog and cat food
  • Kitty litter
  • Treats
  • NEW Toys
  • Food for ALL PETS – included but not limited to reptiles, fish, ferrets, and hamsters!

RONKONKOMA, NY, December 15, 2014–
On December 9, 2014 the Long Island Propane Gas Association Annual Christmas Party was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkonkoma, NY.

Every year we come together as an organization to celebrate the holiday season and the completion  of another successful year. This year, we are proud to announce our First annual Toy Drive benefiting the Long Island Chapter of Toys for Tots.

At our October meeting, we had the pleasure of meeting with Staff Sgt. John Grigg, the Suffolk County Coordinator of Toys for Tots. Since 1947, The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program has collected new, unwrapped toys annually to distribute to community centers, churches and other nonprofit organizations.

Our collection efforts began mid‐October with donation boxes placed at the individual propane companies that make up our organization. We weren’t sure what kind of response we would get, but EVERYONE got in the spirit!  Together, we collected HUNDREDS of gifts that go directly to the children in our community.

Big Announcement!

We are proud to announce our partnership with

For over 30 years, Starlite Propane has kept our local communities warm for the winter. While our customers may know we are always here for them, what they may not know is how devoted we are to our community and the health & happiness of our local children.  We are a family owned and operated company who believes that charity starts at HOME.   This year we are hoping to add a little JOY to holidays and  help the less fortunate children in our area.

Did you know there are over 16 million American children living at or below the poverty level?

Along with the Long Island Propane Gas Association, Starlite Propane and other leaders in the propane industry have stepped up to become an OFFICIAL DROP OFF SITES for the Long Island Chapter of Toys for Tots!

Toys for Tots is a campaign that was started by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1947. It collects and distributes toys to children whose families can’t afford to buy them Christmas gifts. The program supports children birth through 16 years. This year, they are most in need of toys for children birth-2 years and 10-15 years, although all donations are welcomed.

The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to assist the U. S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas. This assistance includes supporting the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program by raising funds to provide toys to supplement the collections of local Toys for Tots campaigns, to provide promotional and support material and defray the costs of conducting annual Toys for Tots campaigns. Other Foundation support includes providing administrative, advisory, financial, logistic and promotional support to local Toys for Tots Coordinators; managing funds raised and monies donated based on the use of Toys for Tots name or logo; providing other support the Marine Corps, as a federal agency, cannot provide; and conducting public education and information programs about Toys for Tots that call the general public to action in support of this patriotic community action program.

Company Overview

Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity is the fundraising, funding and support organization for the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation was created at the behest of the U. S. Marine Corps and provides support in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, who directs the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. School Supply Success!

Back to school is an exciting time, not just for the students, but for parents too! But for some local families, the school supplies required have become a financial burden. Summertime specifically , is a challenging time for families, as many are paying the high costs of daycare during the summer vacation months.

With the support of our valued customers, we were able to donate  backpacks filled with school supplies to the Brook Avenue Elementary School in our own backyard.

Go through the preparation checklist:

1. Make sure you have an adequate propane supply. Ask your propane provider about payment programs and scheduling regular visits so there’s always enough propane in your tank. This will help you avoid running empty if inaccessible roads delay deliveries.

2. Consider purchasing a propane generator. When other power sources fail, a propane generator can keep your house operating without interruption.

3. Consider installing UL-listed propane gas detectors and carbon monoxide detectors for additional security. Always follow the manufacturer instructions for installation, location, and maintenance.

4. Confirm your heating system and appliances are running efficiently. Before the start of each heating season, have a qualified service technician inspect and service your appliances and propane system. When your appliances are running as efficiently as possible, you conserve fuel and save money.

LI2DAY funds programs that encompass multi-cultural, socioeconomic and age-specific populations. The programs we have funded over the last 10 years have grown to include counseling services specifically designed for children and teens affected by their parent/guardian’s breast cancer, as well as Hospice programs that provide comfort and dignity to the patients and their families at the end-stage-of-life. In 2014, LI2DAY will be funding programs to assist women affected by other women’s cancers. Together through our diverse beneficiary organizations, we are helping women, men, and their families have a fighting chance against breast cancer and other women’s cancers.

We gave out free hot dogs with all the fixin’s, healthy snacks, waters, and drinks for all the runners, their families, and supporters.

We collected donations, and had 2 runners representing us that day, Jessica DiBiasi, of North Fork Fireplaces,  and Jared Hamer. Way to Go Jessie & Jared! You can follow Jess & North Fork Fireplaces  on twitter
